Alaska, is a sparsely populated state in the United States, in the northwest of the North American continent. It is the largest U.S. state by area (by a substantial margin), and one of the wealthiest (per capita).Alaska is one of two U.S. states not bordered by another state, Hawaii being the other. Alaska has more coastline than all the other U.S. states combined. It is the only non-contiguous U.S. state on continental North America; about 500 miles (800 km) of Canadian territory separate Alaska from Washington State. Alaska is thus an exclave of the United States, part of the continental U.S. but is not part of the contiguous U.S. Juneau, Alaska's capital city, though located on the mainland of the North American continent, is inaccessible by land—no roads connect Juneau to the rest of the North American highway system. The state is bordered by the Yukon Territory and British Columbia, Canada to the east, the Gulf of Alaska and the Pacific Ocean to the south, the Bering Sea, Bering Strait, and Chukchi Sea to the west and the Beaufort Sea and the Arctic Ocean to the north. Alaska is home of the Iditarod Dog Sled Race. The Iditarod is a 1049 mile race over the terrain of Alaska. The mushers and their dogs will travel over mountain ranges, frozen rivers, thick forests, desolate tundra and miles of coast. Alaska’s thriving cruise ship industry remains one of the most popular ways to see Alaska. Today, approximately 60 percent of Alaska visitors arrive or depart via cruise ship.

Alaska adventure travel destinations and ecotourists seeking a personal connection with nature, wilderness and the local people find Alaska exceptional. Alaskan adventure travel activities include both saltwater charter fishing for Salmon, Trout, Halibut, freshwater fishing guides for bass, trout and pike , big game hunts for Whitetail deer and Bear, Moose and Caribou, outdoor recreation, wilderness tours, kayaking and canoeing and sightseeing tours.

Paris is glorious, of course. My friend Karen Fawcett authors the know-all, see-all blog about all things Paris, BonjourParis.com. Every now and again, we can get a “local” to show us around. Terrance is a fellow Expat who knows the ropes. Learn from him!
