A Montana vacation rental or cabin makes a great home base for enjoying the natural wonders of Montana at a fraction of the price of a hotel.

One of the most popular resort areas in Montana is Big Sky, located near Yellowstone National Park. With average annual snowfall of more than 400 inches, Big Sky is a paradise for skiers and snowboarders. The Big Sky ski resort features 85 miles of runs (58% expert), a half-pipe and two terrain parks. The three mountains making up Big Sky resort are Lone Peak Mountain, with mostly intermediate and expert runs, Andesite Mountain with primarily intermediate runs, and Flat Iron Mountain with trails for all levels. Big Sky is known for its un-crowded conditions and short lift lines.

Wintertime guests of Big Sky vacation rentals can also enjoy cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and sleigh rides. Summertime visitors can enjoy hiking, horseback riding, biking, white water rafting and a golf course designed by Arnold Palmer. Hikers and mountain bikers can hitch a scenic ride up the mountain on Big Sky’s gondola.

In western Montana, the Montana Snowbowl ski area is a popular ski resort, with two peaks on 950 acres. Snowbowl features a 2,600-foot vertical drop and 500 acres of tree skiing for guests of Montana vacation rentals.

Other popular ski areas for guests of Montana vacation rentals include Big Mountain, a family-friendly resort near Glacier National Park with 91 trails, and Bridger Bowl near Bozeman, featuring 69 trails with 35% intermediate.

Glacier National Park is a natural wonderland of snow-capped peaks, glaciers, pristine lakes and deep valleys covering more than a million acres on the Canadian border. Guests of Montana vacation rentals will find 700 miles of hiking trails, a number of lakes designated for boating and swimming, and outfitters offering rafting trips. The park is also known for its population of several hundred grizzly and black bears.

While Yellowstone National Park is located mostly in Wyoming, guests of Montana vacation rentals will find three park entrances on the southern edge of Montana. Yellowstone is an amazing natural wonderland encompassing 2.2 million acres of geothermal activity, thundering waterfalls, scenic mountain beauty and abundant wildlife. With more than 10,000 thermal features, Yellowstone has the most extensive geyser activity in the world.
